I have had my iPod touch for about two months now and I must say it’s exactly what I thought it would be. The obvious iPod functions; music, movies, podcasts and audiobooks are all boosted with its wifi ability.
For the last month or so, I have pondered on whether I should jailbreak the touch, why you ask? Two main reasons: third party apps that don’t cost $19.99 and root access to the iPod (I will explain this later).
There are numerous posts all over the web but none are up to date nor to the point. I found this blog with help from Stevo that has step by step instructions on how to jailbreak your iPod touch.
Update (Feb 20): Don’t use your jailbroken touch or phone with the apple store WiFi. Went to the apple store for a brief look at the Macbook Air; connected to their WiFi; moments later my touch rebooted and was reset to DFU (Device Firmware Upgrade) mode. Tried a “re-break” at home and still have not had any luck; fortunately there’s always the restore option. Anyone else experience this?
Update (April 1): Not an April Fool’s Day joke! Re-hacked my iPod Touch and in the words of Kramer “Ammm Lovingggg it”!! Waiting on the jailbreak for the 1.14 software update at the moment. Now equipped with new games favorites being iPool and iChess. Let me know if you have any questions on this post.
Update (April 15): New easy and quick method of iPod Touch jailbreaking – Use Quickpwn

will jailbraking my iPod enable javascript ??….Will it ruin my iPod? wat is jail breaking for???….@:]

@Marian the iPod touch has JavaScript enabled by default. You can check by going to Settings -> Safari and check to see if JavaScript is set to on.
Jailbreaking is basically a hack that allows users to gain access to the entire iPod/iPhone Unix filesystem allowing a user to install any kind of third party application they desire. If done right, it wouldn’t ruin your iPod/iPhine. Incase of a problem, you can reset your iPod/iPhone.

Not a lot of comments on this. Probably because people are too lazy to write.
